Comparison of Undrained Shear Strength Estimates for Normally Consolidated Clays
Different measures of undrained shear strength are compared and contrasted for two estuarine clay profiles, one in the Melbourne area and one in the Brisbane area, in Australia. Comments are made about the reliability of different tests in estimating the undrained shear strength and about the correlations established for the Melbourne Coode Island Silty Clay and the Brisbane River estuarine clays. Attention is drawn to the markedly different correlations between cone penetration test, cone resistance and corrected field vane shear strength for the two sites and reasons for this are postulated.
