In 1803 Henry Howser built this two-story stone structure on Kings Creek in South Carolina, 23 years after the battle of Kings Mountain. As documented by almost complete land surveys, wills, public sale records, and estate appraislas, the house remained in the Howser family until 1918. The National Park Service acquired it in 1938 while purchasing lands for the military park. The study describes property succession, alternating Park Service interest and neglect, and the building's construction and condition.
