Nonmetallic Coatings for Concrete Reinforcing Bars. Coating materials
The work was undertaken in order to determine the feasibility of using organic coatings, especially epoxies, to protect steel reinforcing bars embedded in concrete from accelerated corrosion attributed to the depassivation of steel by chloride ions. Coatings have been evaluated on the basis of their chemical and physical durabilities as well as their protective qualities. In this study, attention has also been directed to the following: application methods; surface preparation of the steel reinforcing bar; and site of application. (Author)
