Pavement Rehabilitation Research
The report outlines the best methods and materials available to rehabilitate the asphalt pavements under the jurisdiction of the cities and counties in Washington State. A prioritization scheme is presented which can be used to select the most appropriate repair alternative to correct a specific problem. Information is provided on the state-of-the-art in materials and procedures being used throughout the country to accomplish the various repair alternatives. In conjunction with the work, the delineation between 'maintenance' and 'construction' work is discussed. It is recommended that the legal definitions of maintenance and construction be modified to combine both activities under a general road preservation category. The general category would provide agencies with the flexibility to perform life cycle cost analysis to determine, for a given project, which repair activity is most cost effective.
