Evaluation of ASTM Standard Consolidation Requirements for Preparing High-Strength Concrete Cylinders
This experiment was designed to determine whether the consolidation method (rodding or vibration) used to prepare standard test specimens affects the cylinder strength. Cylinders were rodded in three layers and vibrated in two layers, according to current requirements in C 31 and C 192. Four mixtures were used that included different cement contents and different slumps. In addition, the influence of operator experience was also studied.
