Evaluation of Bilirubin Standards, Calibrators and Controls
Twenty-nine different commercial products (represented by thirty-two different samples) marketed for use in clinical chemistry laboratories as bilirubin standards, calibrators or controls, were evaluated in this study. These samples were analyzed for bilirubin concentration and the resulting values were compared with the corresponding label value supplied by the manufacturer/vendor. All results were standardized by the preparation and analysis of standard solutions of bilirubin prepared from the National Bureau of Standard's Standard Reference Material 916 (Bilirubin), pooled human serum, and other essential reagents.
