Evaluation of Sediment Control Dams
Small dams in waterways have been extensively used by PennDOT in erosion control. The evaluation of the performance of these small dams was conducted to determine how well they performed in removing sediment from flowing water. Also the various methods of constructing these dams were compared. The results indicate that only minor amounts of suspended sediment are removed from the flowing water. However, the bottom transport is trapped by these dams. The rock dams generally were stable.
