To Transfer National Forest Lands to the Mescalero Apache Tribe
The Apache Tribe of the Mescalero Reservation has requested that the Sierra Blanca Winter Sports Area including 2,240 acres of the Lincoln National Forest be transferred to the Department of the Interior, to be held in trust for the Mescalero Apache Tribe. It is felt that were scientific forestry no longer the basis for the management of these 2,240 acres, and if the social and economic well-being of the Tribe were to become the primary criteria for land management, then the physical environment could be adversely affected.
