Strength and Deformation of Confined and Unconfined Concrete Under Axial Dynamic Loading
This report describes a research program whose specific objectives were to develop procedures and to demonstrate the feasibility of using them to make micrographic examinations of slices cut from damaged Split-Hopkinson-Pressure Bar unconfined concrete compression test specimens that were recovered intact and also from untested and statically tested specimens in order to determine crack development characteristics. The general objective was to obtain a qualitative understanding of the physical mechanism leading to failure and potentially a quantitative basis for deformation and failure process modeling. This specific investigation was preliminary for a more extensive study of both confined and unconfined test specimens.
