Project Sedan Stability of Crater Slopes
An important consideration in the Corps of Engineers' PLOWSHARE Program for developing capabilities of performing large-scale excavations using nuclear explosives is the problem of evaluating the stability of the cratered slope and the adequacy of the surrounding soils in supporting structures. The Sedan shot in desert alluvium provided an excellent opportunity to obtain information on this problem.
