Spillway for Genegantslet Dam Genegantslet Creek, New York. Hydraulic Model Investigation
The spillway for Genegantslet Dam was studied on a 1:36-scale model to insure satisfactory performance and to effect economies in construction or improvement in flow conditions. Initial tests indicated the necessity for revision of the spillway approach area, weir, and wall alignment. The degree of curvature of the approach channel and the length of approach walls were such as to cause uneven distribution of flow over the spillway weir. This uneven flow distribution extended into the chute creating a series of transverse waves which overtopped the chute walls at many points. Also, the discharge that could be passed at maximum pool level was about 16 per cent below the maximum desired flow. Revisions to the spillway involving the extension of the right approach wall upstream, realignment of walls in the approach and chute areas, and a change in the location and cross section of the weir resulted in satisfactory performance.
