Reference Architecture for Workflow Management Systems
This document presents a detailed reference architecture for an 'ideal' workflow management system. The development of the architecture is based on a set of design principles that guards its quality and has been performed by a team from the fields of research, consulting, and end users. The architecture is designed to comply with a broad set of aspects, such as heterogeneous environments, extensible functionality, and mobile workflow clients. The architecture can be used to analyze and compare existing workflow management systems or as a basis for the development of new systems.
