Dynamic Responses of Six Multistory Buildings During the San Fernando Earthquake
This report provides the practicing engineer with a collection of brief descriptions of a variety of multistory buildings and their responses to the San Fernando earthquake. Each description contains information concerning the overall size and location of the building, the amount of damage sustained during the earthquake, if any, the type of construction and the type of foundation. Typical section and plan views of the lateral load resisting systems are also shown. The recorded accelerations measured in the building and the corresponding integrated displacements as well as the computed relative displacements are presented. Various aspects of these recorded motions of importance to the practicing engineer are discussed. A list of references, which include more detailed information concerning the buildings, is also given.
