'Colonia Managua' an Aided Self-Help Housing Project in Nicaragua
A well-planned, well-organized aided self-help housing program which utilizes the potential skills and unused leisure time of ill-housed families in the construction of their own houses, not only helps them to improve their living conditions but contributes to the economic wealth of their country. While an aided self-help program is not a cure-all for the housing problem of newly developing countries, it is an effective method by which many low- and middle-income families, who cannot afford to have housing built for them by professional builders, can become home owners at a cost within their means.
