Condition Surveys and Pavement Evaluation of Existing and Overlaid Rigid Pavements
Condition survey procedures used in the past to monitor the performance of rigid and overlaid pavements were improved and modified to accommodate the needs of the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT). A microcomputer was used during the field surveys to expedite the data entry procedure and eliminate the need for creating computer data files from field data forms. Pavement evaluation procedures at network level, which were developed earlier, were modified to represent distress and priority indices on a scale of 0 to 100. A new method to evaluate pavements at project level was also developed, which uses a new index called Deflection Distress Index. The application of the computer program PRP01 to predict future rehabilitation needs has been demonstrated using the existing data.
