Systems Approach in Integrated Harbour Planning
In answer to the new requirements posed on port design and operation and to stay abreast of new developments in this area the Delft Hydraulics Laboratory has recently added a systems analysis capability to its hydraulic and coastal engineering expertise. Concerning port design this is meant to form an interface between the laboratory's technical expertise, being one of the disciplines involved, and the client and/or other disciplines involved in the planning and design. The systems analysis branch can provide assistance with the interpretation/specification of design criteria, the synthesis of detailed studies, and to some extent contribute to the overall planning of the port. This paper illustrates in general terms the services of the laboratory in the framework of an integrated port design.
