A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This research includes analytical and experimental studies of suction piles for their potential use as part of the mooring system for MOB's in deep water. Experimental studies include laboratory model tests, field tests, and centrifuge model tests. Laboratory experiments include installation simulation of suction piles in clay and medium dense sand. Field experiment and centrifuge model tests include suction pile installation in medium dense sand. Analytical study includes the determination of ultimate capacities of suction piles against the horizontal, vertical, and inclined loads. In addition, validation of the analytical solution on mooring line analysis through comparisons with the centrifuge model and field tests is included.
