The HMA is coterminous with the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Division, one of three divisions within the four-state Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. The metropolitan area is the fifth largest in the nation, with 5.7 million people, 70 percent of whom reside in the HMA.
