Load-Settlement Prediction for Piles and Piers
A simple method is presented for the prediction of load-settlement behavior to failure of single piles and piers. The results of theoretical elastic analyses of pile settlement behavior are used as a basis for the method, which assumes linear relationships to failure between base load and settlement, and shaft load and settlement. An analysis is made of several published load tests on piles in clay and sand and empirical values of soil modulus are suggested. Comparisons between observed and predicted load-settlement behavior show reasonable agreement. (Author)
