Pierson, Aicha Chalabi and Ani Aiza Asha'ari argue that present day analogues may provide useful tools to represent and even quantify reservoir heterogeneity. Studies of recent carbonate platforms in the Celebes Sea, east of Sabah, illustrate both the complexity of lateral facies distribution on individual platforms and the variability from one platform to another.
