The chapter ends by proposing some realistic measures to promote walking including: making use of 'flexible features' in cities (p. 286) such as access to water bodies, providing new public spaces and footways, traffic calming, improving surfaces of footways (p. 287), adding street furniture, providing pedestrian streets or car-free streets, networking streets for pedestrian accessibility, integrating public transportation stops within pedestrians networks to encourage pedestrian mobility outside city centres.
