La ciudad herida. Siete ejemplos paradigmáticos de rehabilitación urbana en la segunda mitad del siglo XX
The second half of the 20th century marks a point of inflexion in the history of urbanism. The methods of urban development that have been applied thus far are no longer capable of answering some of the central problems embedded in the heart of cities: ghettos, insecurity or criminality. It is necessary to look for new methods capable of generating the recovery of the life force of urban neighborhoods. Kreuzberg in Berlin, the historical center of Bologna, Le Marais in Paris, Fener and Balat in Istanbul, Molenbeek in Brussels, Mouraria in Lisbon and Lavapies in Madrid have turned into paradigmatic examples of this new idea of urban rehabilitation. Social diversity which prevents the creation of ghettos; quality public spaces which favors interpersonal relations; and safety which supports and strengthens the image that have been built regarding the urban environment, emerge as crucial concepts for the recovery of the "wounded city".
