Costs for a stand-alone off-grid system will be higher than those for government-supported projects, so mining companies have to have a long-term commitment, and the motivation, to achieve the biggest benefits from using an on-site IPP company.\n With a life of more than 70 years, South Deep has an average demand of 55 MW, peaking at 75 MW, with energy accounting for 13% of its operating costs.
