2016 Sidney Freedman Craftsmanship Awards
Four plants recognized by PCI for excellence in manufacturing of architectural precast concrete. Gage Brothers Precast Co and Forterra Structural and Specialty Products were selected as the winners of the 2016 competition. Gage Brothers was recognized for its production of cladding panels for the Sanford Fargo Medical Center. Forterra Structural Precast was recognized for its execution of cladding for the LDS Temple. The facade of the Sanford Fargo Medical Center is in the collegiate gothic architectural style, with gothic arches at the arcade and spires at the parapet and tower. The LDS Temple is clad in architectural precast concrete panels produced using a self-consolidating concrete mixture incorporating white cement, white aggregates, and a pigmenting admixture. The Neiman Marcus Retail Store architectural panels for this store were produced in three colors, each with a different texture. The precast panels for St. George Catholic Church incorporate thin brick and simulated limestone finishes helping make the church look like a 100-year-old cathedral constructed using traditional handset brick and limestone.
