A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
it is an important task for Chinese energy saving and emission reduction to reduce rural residential energy consumption, while enhancing indoor thermal comfort at the same time. With mohe (mohe county is a county of heilongjiang province) as an example, the extreme minimum temperature even once reached -52.3°C. under such frigid conditions, the thousand-year development of rural residential building types reveals great ecological intelligence, in respect to construction type, roofing and window materials, passive solar and other features. following systematic studies of the advantages and disadvantages of these traditional design patterns, the authors propose strategies to guide future development of sustainable rural residences in severe cold areas. The chinese government now pays more attention to energy conservation of rural residential buildings and invests vast amounts of capital to support energy saving research and construction in rural areas. in response to a government request for proposals, our research group at harbin institute of Technology proposed a scientific research project titled "The key technology research and demonstration of green village construction in cold areas (no.2013BaJ12B00)." it was funded in 2013 and will be completed by 2015. In terms of residential building and thermal environment research, some published research has focused on the rural low-cost house type (datta, 2008) (diacon, 1990); some discuss the relationship between house and local materials like bamboo and earth (hadjri, Osmani, Baiche and chifunda, 2007) (hadjri, 2005); and some papers focus on sustainable houses (noguchi and hadjri, 2009) (vehbi,et.al., 2010) (miller, et.al., 2013). in the specific case of...
