Permeability Evolution in Granite Under Compressive Stress Condition
Abstract This paper presents the permeability of the granite in response to triaxial compressive test. The relationship between permeability and deformation is analyzed in detail. The results show that the permeability–axial strain curve exhibits five stages: (I) initial compaction stage, (II) elastic deformation stage, (III) yield deformation stage, (IV) stress sharp drop stage and (V) residual stress stage. It is found that the permeability decreases when confining pressure is larger and it increases when pore water pressure is larger. The permeability decreases at the stage of volumetric compaction and increases at the stage of volumetric dilation.
