Experimental investigation of the combined behavior of reinforced concrete plates and a sandy foundation bed
Conclusions 1. During joint operation of reinforced-concrete plates and a sands foundation bed, it was observed that continuous plastic deformation occurred in the foundation bed and the material of the plate, and also a lowering of the rigidity of the plate in its central part because of crack development. 2. The shape of the contact-stress curves beneath a square reinforced-concrete plate of finite rigidity depends on the relations of the stage of the stress-strain state in the plate and the foundation bed and is characterized by concentration of stresses in the middle part of the plate with increasing load. 3. The picture of crack formation in plates of different initial flexibility and at different degrees of development of plastic deformation in the foundation bed may be assumed to be identical for plates with a free bearing of the load-transmitting head. 4. Reinforced-concrete foundation plates on compressible foundation beds have a large unused reserve of strength.
