Full-scale investigations of applicability of pile-columns in the construction of the Karaganda Metallurgical Combine
Conclusions The experiments carried out enable the following conclusions to be made:For rigid piles the point of inflection is located approximately two-thirds of the pile length L below the planned level.The reactive soil pressures along the contact surface of the pile are proportional to the horizontal loading applied.For the same horizontal load the pressures on the rear face of the pile are approximately 50 to 100% greater than those on the front face.The maximum values of the reactive presure are 8 to 10 times the Coulomb values. The above investigations promoted the wide application of pile-columns in the construction of the Karaganda Metallurgical Combine, effecting a saving of 711,000 rubles during the period 1968–1972.
