Effective method of drilling soil exploration boreholes in frozen ground
Conclusions Cooling of compressed air in a heat exchanger by means of atmospheric air is sufficiently effective for drilling holes in frozen rocks with blowing. The proposed method of cooling compressed air does not require considerable material expenditures and permits obtaining high-grade samples. When drilling frozen soils having a moisture content greater than 10% a high-grade core can be obtained by means of a single-tube core barrel. In soils with a moisture content less than 10% a double-tube core barrel must be used.
