Engineering-economic determination of optimum depth of preconstruction thawing of permafrost soils under buildings
Conclusions 1. The depth of preconstruction thawing of permafrost soils in the foundation base of a building should be based on principles of reliability theory and statistical dynamics. This will enable the optimum solution to be found and the capital expenditure to be reduced. 2. The optimum solution for the depth of preconstruction thawing depends on the combination of the freezing/soil conditions and the structural features of the building. It can be found by computation based on the method described in this article.
