Failure of frozen soils by high-pressure hydraulic jets in trench and pit construction
Conclusions For the free motion of the monitor in the cut being formed, the axis of the jet-forming nozzle should have an incline to the horizon. It was 35–45° for the range of variation in parameters under investigation. The temperature of the working fluid does not affect the failure rate of the frozen soils. The relationship between the pressure and cutting rate is nonlinear owing to a drop in the dynamic pressure of the jet in the fluid medium that surrounds it.
