Seismic-insulating adaptive foundation systems
Abstract Some results are presented from a research program on optimization of seismic insulation systems. It was shown that, taking into account the fundamental indeterminacy of information about parameters of future earthquakes, the optimum seismic protection systems (from the point of view of minimizing seismic loads) belong to the class of adaptive systems capable of rearrangement (self-adjustment) of dynamic characteristics in the process of an intensive earthquake. Examples are given of seismic-insulating systems. Information is presented about the practical use of such systems in structures.
