Contact problem with controlling parameters for a rigid plate on an elastic layer of variable thickness
Abstract It is demonstrated that the settlement of a plate on an elastic layer of variable thickness will be uniform, if the corresponding coordinates of the point of application of the resultant vertical load are given, or a certain planform is imparted to the plate; this can be accomplished using controlling parameters. Numerical implementation of both approaches on a computer based on the method of boundary elements is discussed.
