Modeling the percussive tamping of trenches
Abstract Basic results are presented for complex investigations conducted over a number of years by specialists on the “Beds, foundations, and bridges” chair of the Perm' State Technical University and the Institute of Continuum Mechanics, Ukrainian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences. A statement of the two-dimensional nonlinear dynamic problem is given, and a brief description of the numerical scheme and algorithm is presented within the framework of the mechanics of a deformable rigid body. Computational examples are examined with analysis of compaction, deformation, and stress distribution in the vicinity of a tamped trench.
