Aftereffect of Dynamic Deformation of Soils
Abstract It is demonstrated experimentally that the aftereffect phenomenon associated with dynamic deformation is inherent to all types of soils - from sands to heavy plastic clays. Its duration may attain 50-60% of the total time required for development of the deformation process, while the aftereffect deformation may amount to as much as 28% of maximum soil deformation. It is demonstrated that the dynamic aftereffect is relaxation in nature, and is determined by mechanisms of the relaxation processes themselves. Relationships between aftereffect deformations and the moisture content of the soils and the loading regime (deformation) are established.
