Effect of Construction of Deep-Seated Structures on Existing Historic Buildings in Moscow
Abstract Deformations are cited for buildings in a historic setting, which fall into the zone of influence of deep-seated structures, as a function of their distance from the trench, and categories derived on the basis of field measurements are presented for their condition. The effect of the method employed for opening of the trench on deformations of surrounding buildings is analyzed for the soil conditions of Moscow. A criterion is proposed for evaluation of limiting allowable additional deformations of the buildings – the curvature of the lower surfaces of the foundations. A table of limiting additional deformations is compiled for existing historic buildings when nearby deep-seated structures are erected.
