Shell Foundations on Tamped Soil Beds
Abstract A method is proposed for the installation of a shell foundation on a bed formed from a compacted soil “pillar,” which repeats the internal shape of the shell, and which can be formed by a special conical die. Results are cited for full-scale tests under field conditions, and an approximate method is proposed for estimation of the bearing capacity of the soil bed from static-probe data.
