Pile Foundations in Noncaked Saturated Soils
Abstract The influence exerted by additional loads on precast piles due to forces of loading (negative) friction along their lateral surface during self-consolidation of fill soils, basic factors of self-consolidation of fill soils and the soils beneath them, the sizes of the self-consolidating strata, and the interaction between self-consolidating fill soils and the soils residing beneath them and the piles are described. It is proposed to design piles with allowance for their additional loading. Characteristic features of static and dynamic tests in self-consolidating soils, and also measures to eliminate orreduce additional settlements due to self-consolidation of noncaked saturated soils are examined.
