Experience with Stabilization of Loess Soils Prone to Slump-Type Settlement in Volgodonsk
Abstract Causes of catastrophic slump-type settlement of loess soils during construction of Volgodonsk and the Atommash Plant are cited. Experience gained with stabilization of settlements by different means without curtailing the occupancy and service of the buildings and structures and relocation of tenants is described. Negative experience with the “geomass” method for improving the properties of soils prone to slump-type settlement on projects in Volgodonsk is examined.
