Relaxation of shear stresses in sands
Abstract Results obtained on an original device are cited for an experimental investigation of the relaxation of shear stresses in sand. Basic attention is focused on methodical problems of the derivation of dynamic characteristics in a slow-motion environment. It is demonstrated that the “strength” of a sand layer will depend on the rate of deformation: the lower the rate, the smaller the forces required for deformation of the layer.
