Preservation of Lock Joints in Steel Sheet Piling During Vibratory Driving
It is demonstrated that during vibratory driving of lengthy steel sheet piling, the appearance of resonance with a stress level that exceeds the tensile strength of the steel by several times is possible as a result of which the lock joints are damaged. An analytical relationship is derived for determination of the natural frequency of the "pile-driver/sheet-piling" system, the validity of which is confirmed by numerical modeling and data derived from field observations.
