State-dependent fragility curves using real and artificial earthquake sequences
Abstract Large mainshocks could trigger numerous aftershocks, exposing residents to a significant risk of life loss. Structures may be excited by different earthquake sequences in their efficient lifetime. It is thus essential to take into account the effects of accumulation damage on seismic behavior of structures. This paper investigates the influence of sequential earthquakes on the fragility curves for different damage states. Fragility curves obtained by real mainshock–aftershock (MSAS) events and artificial MSAS sequences generated based on (1) the generalized Omori’s law and (2) scaling of mainshock are compared and discussed. Results of analysis showed that the well-known Omori’s law could be considered as a suitable tool for aftershocks generation for obtaining of state-dependent fragility curves.
