Conclusions There is no direct proportionality between the block weight in a riprap lining and the wave length. The effect of the wave slope on the block weight can be evaluated approximately as 30% when the wave slope varies from k=10 to k=20, but not as 100% as advocated by Eqs. (1) and (2).If the equation is based on experiments with waves of slopes on the order of 1∶20 (as, for example, is Iribarren's equation), then for waves on the order of 1∶10 (water reservoir conditions) a reduction coefficient equal to 0.8 can be introduced. The most reasonable equation for determination of the stone and block weight in riprap structures is R. Iribarren's [3] equation, which was given the form of Eq. (15) after G. G. Metelitsyina's analysis. This equation is recommended for inclusion into CS-92-68.For a more accurate evaluation of the effect of wave slope on the blocks in a riprap lining, a series of scale model experiments, according to a specified procedure, should be performed.
