The Dneproges-II hydroelectric plant-project of the ninth five-year plan
Conclusions The expansion of such a large hydraulic development as the V. I. Lenin Dneproges hydroelectric plant, with partial reconstruction of its different structures without affecting their normal operation, is a type of project undertaken for the first time in the Soviet hydropower construction practice. The experience indicates that preparations for similar reconstructions should be carried out more carefully than for new construction projects, since many problems and difficulties inherent to reconstruction may remain unattended and without opportune preparation for their solution.The comparison between the current normative requirements on stability, strength, and constructional solutions of hydraulic structures and the norms applied during the period of design and construction of the first stages of hydroelectric plants indicates that the previously adopted technical solutions were bold and highly reliable, as demonstrated by the 40-year experience with operation of existing structures.
