A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Conclusions Density currents radically change the hydraulic regime and processes occurring in a water body, having a substantial effect on water quality. In particular, in the case of formation of suspended solid density currents the time for siltation of reservoirs increases. The elevations of the sills, size and shape of intake openings and the design of conduits and the flow part of hydraulic turbines should depend on the parameters (primarily on the sediment concentration) of the flow entering these openings. In the case of the discharge of reusable wastewaters into a water body their pipeless discharge can be provided. The indicated circumstances determined the practical significance of density currents, particularly from the standpoint of environmental protection.Calculation of the parameters of the density currents, particularly the position of their surface, can be made by the proposed method with the use of the equations obtained. In an experimental evaluation of this surface, besides providing equality of the corresponding modeling criteria in the case of simulation of one or both fluid media in a model, it is necessary to provide additional conditions which permits retaining the uniqueness of the main physical properties and identity of the chemical and biological process in the model and in the prototype by changing the concentrations of the simulating media.
