Mechanical equipment of spillways of the Charvak, Nurek, and Toktogul hydroelectric stations
Conclusions The use of high-head gates similar in dimensions and purpose but differing in design for testing under actual conditions was a useful and justified measure of the Central Asian branch of Gidroproekt — the general designer of the hydroelectric stations — and Mosgidrostal', having greatly broadened experience in their design, manufacture, and assembly. To determine the most reliable and expedient mechanical equipment of new high-head hydroelectric stations it is necessary to study thoroughly the results of the operation of experimental gates under actual conditions and to eliminate known defects and troubles in their designs. The experience of operating high-head gates indicates the need to make the requirements imposed on the manufacture and assembly of such gates more stringent in order to improve their still inadequate reliability.Determination of the most reliable and promising designs of the service and emergency-guard gates for new high-head hydrostations will make it possible to obtain a considerable economic effect.
