Crack resistance of precast reinforced-concrete beams with welded reinforcement projections
Conclusions Initial welding stresses occurring during welding of reinforcement splices in the joints of precast reinforced-concrete flexural members can be used for increasing the rigidity and crack resistance of their interblock joints.The necessary level of the initial tensile welding stresses can be determined from the condition of equality of the linking joint and monolithic cross section of the precast blocks.The concrete sealing the welded splices of the reinforcement projections in the joints of precast reinforced-concrete members is less prone to cracking as a consequence of the jig effect exerted on it by the compressed concrete of the precast block.
