Left-bank dam of the Bratsk hydroelectric station
Conclusions According to the data of 16-yr observations the left-bank earth dam is operating satisfactorily.Settlement of the dam, forming due to consolidation of its soils, has still not ended, but is already noticeably decreasing. The seepage regime at the dam site meets the calculated condition, but differs somewhat from the design forecasts owing to anisotropy of the sandstones which was not taken into account during modeling of the foundation. The groundwater flow of the left bank formed during the first years of operation is practically stable; some tendency toward an increase of discharges with time, requiring a check and observations, occurred only in the zone of bypass seepage (into the Turoka Ravine) in 1974.The drainage system is operating satisfactorily in conformity with the design with the exception of the No. 1 tunnel, which does not completely protect the OEE from subirrigation. The tunnel proved to be shorter than necessary in its upper part, and the northwest corner of the OEE area is subjected to intense heaving of the loams due to the high groundwater level.
