Hydropower engineering of the Northern Caucasus
Conclusions A examination of the prospects of hydropower construction in the Northern Caucasus showed that the development of the unused part of the economic hydropotential will make it possible to save about 4 million tons of reference fuel. Many extremely important problems for this region of the multipurpose use of water resources and development of industrial facilities and infrastructure and a number of social problems in the mountainous regions of republics of the Northern Caucasus will be solved simultaneously. To solve problems of the further development of the hydropotential of the Northern Caucasus it is necessary to return again to an examination from current standpoints of the problem of siting regulating storages in the basin of the Terek River, for which schemes of the multipurpose use of all main Terek tributaries — Urukh, Argun, Assa, and Ardon — should be developed. When planning various water-management installations in the Northern Caucasus it is necessary to examine the economic expediency of using the drops of the water levels created on the hydraulic structures for including small hydrostations as part of these structures.
