Dimensionless analysis of optimum designs
Conclusion The use of dimensionless analysis is an effective method of estimating the boundaries of the region of stability of optimization of designs. This permits reducing the volume of calculations by eliminating very little representative factors, the absolute value of which is less than the value of the error in determining the dominant costs. A correct estimation of the region of stability of the solution in optimization problems, in addition to simplifying calculations, permits taking into account real design and industrial factors not having a direct quantitative evaluation and overlooked in calculations, which thereby objectively promotes making the most technological and feasible technical decision. For example, for a sufficiently wide range of equivalent sections of a long hydraulic tunnel one can take that for which there is an available set of tunneling equipment or tubing of a fixed diameter, etc.
